Maxillary Sinus Grafting & Management  - Dr. Ron Zokol

The predictable management of the maxillary sinus requires an understanding of the treatment option including direct and indirect site preparation for placement of dental implants. It is imperative to understand the possible pathologies of the maxillary sinus as well as the treatment differences for each.

This 3-day (30 CE) course will include these learning topics:

• Requirements for evaluating and determining the health status of the Maxillary Sinus,
• Understanding the pathology related to the Maxillary Sinus and subsequent treatment options,
• Working with a physician/ENT in the management of infected Maxillary Sinuses,
• Management of soft tissue and hard tissue tuberosities,
• Lateral access (Direct) procedures for single and multi-lobulated sinuses,
• Crestal access (Indirect) procedures for single implant placement,
• Direct and Indirect subnasal elevation grafts,
• When to consider direct or indirect treatment protocols,
• How to manage sinus membrane perforations and other complications.

There will be hands-on workshops with goats head and models each day to gain familiarity with these procedures.

OVERVIEW

This one-day program features a live surgery for a patient with a severely atrophic maxilla and mandible requesting a graftless solution for the placement of dental implants to retain fixed prostheses. Participating experienced dental implant surgeons, will be immersed in the pre-surgical planning, surgical and implant prosthodontic care as well as the associated laboratory procedures required for this patient. This day will focus on considerations in the surgical and prosthodontic planning for minimally invasive care, we will discuss the biologic basis for these protocols and speak to the enormous merits of same day implant prosthodontic solutions.

Acellular dermal matrices have been utilized in dentistry for over 25 years. With little enhancement to this industry, course attendees will have the opportunity to enhance their suturing technique and skills while having the opportunity to learn about an alternative solution that increases patient comfort, improves initial healing and enhances long-term results.

Full-arch rehabilitation for patients with severe maxillary resorption presents unique challenges, and zygoma implants offer an effective solution when traditional prosthetic solutions aren’t viable.
