Dr. Paulo Malo's presentation

Evolution and rationale of the All-on-4® treatment concept with inventor, Paulo Malo

At EAO Congress 2023, Nobel Biocare hosted an Industry Forum marking a quarter of a century since the first published study on the revolutionary All-on-4® treatment concept.

The opening presentation was led by its inventor, Dr. Paulo Malo, and he takes us through its evolution including the first cases, initial research findings, and early failures and learnings. He explains how over the years, the concept was not well accepted by the dental community and was disregarded as a feasible solution for full-arch restoration. In 2004, Nobel Biocare saw the technique’s potential in giving patients with edentulism or failing dentition a rejuvenated smile on the day of surgery.

Over the past twenty-five years, the surgical procedure of tilted implants in the posterior and parallel implants in the anterior has remained largely unchanged, but the products available have undergone continuous improvement and innovation. During the presentation, Dr. Malo hints at further developments which will appear soon: innovations that may lead to improved treatment and successful outcomes for even more patients.
