Participants will be required to bring
1. Laptop with NobelClinician with SmartFusion installed
2. Bring at least one of your own cases of a partially edentulous patient, including:
a. (CB)CT scan (min. 6 remaining teeth scanned).
b. Impression model of the partially edentulous patient.
c. Diagnostic wax up of the area to be restored (needs to be removable for scanning).
Content of the workshop
Recent digital applications in implant dentistry permit to collect three-dimensional data about diagnosis, surgical implant placement and prosthetic reconstruction prior to the treatment initiation.
Combining this crucial data will help you to arrive at a correct diagnosis and formulate a better treatment plan. The prosthetic reconstruction can be planned for in advance, and implants can be delivered precisely using CT based guiding systems.
One of the major reasons why practitioners do not incorporate digital planning is the perception that planning takes too much time and does not result in a better outcome. This workshop will demonstrate that, if implemented correctly, the opposite is true. Participants will learn which tasks can be delegated, and how to efficiently develop a treatment approach that will actually save time in the overall treatment and deliver more consistent outcomes.

Did you say peri-implantitis? What, when, by whom...

Peri-implantitis is a multifactorial problem. The prevalence appears to have increased enormously, some studies have even recorded prevalences of more than 30% on patient base. It is assumed that peri-implantitis is caused by pathogenic bacteria in the mouth. However, recent research identified several "non microbiological" causes to be responsible for severe bone loss around implants such as:
Remodeling of the bone after implant placement, the negative effect of excessive compression on the bone, the role of occlusal overload, cleaning of the suprastructure, bio compatibility, as well as the quality / thickness of the peri-implant tissues.
What impact does the type and configuration of abutments and their (repeated) removal have on the attachment level and marginal bone around dental implants?
Perhaps it is important to distinguish primary peri-implantitis (bacterial cause), and secondary peri-implantitis (initial bone is lost due to other factors).
Integrated workflow in implant dentistry: from diagnosis to final prosthetics

As newer treatment concepts such as CT-assisted diagnosis, minimally invasive surgery, guided surgery and immediate restorations advance, the outcome of treatment has become more predictable. These new approaches allow for a significantly reduced treatment complexity, facilitate the overall process and deliver the prosthetic restoration in an expedient and cost-effective manner. Furthermore, these new techniques enhance the patient experience and provide the necessary information for proper evaluation and critical decisions. The health care provider with appropriate diagnostic, prognostic, surgical and restorative skills will be the primary clinician of choice delivering these services, and the company providing all the necessary tools to the clinician within one system will be the partner of the future.
This program highlights diagnostic and treatment planning issues, basic digital data acquisition, and their transformation into surgical tools. Case selection criteria are decisive, and will, for that reason, be highlighted. Finally, the altered flow of treatment will be discussed comprehensively. Prosthetic restorations, from single tooth to full arch cases, will be detailed in relationship to emergence profile, type of restorative materials and case design. Provisionalization as it relates to patient management during the active treatment will be scrutinized, as will immediate loading protocols.
Upon completion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
1. Discuss how digital data acquisition and planning can help establish the potential outcome as well as limits of any proposed treatment.
2. Understand the various entry- and exit points of the digital workflow based on their preference and availability of digital equipment.
3. Apply a materials selection algorithm to select the most appropriate dental materials for the various indications.
Impact of product testing and design on longevity and safety of implant-retained restorations

Implants are a well established and extensively researched treatment option in dentistry. Clinical studies document excellent results with more than 10 years of follow-up data available. Addi¬tionally, innovations in recent years have driven continuous improvements in both the treatment predictability and the safety for the patient.
However, predictable performance of implant-retained restorations is dependent upon not only proper treatment planning and execution, but also utilization of matching components. Specifically, components that have been both tested as a system and adjusted for specific clini¬cal needs can minimize failure and complications related to hard and soft tissue maintenance as well as component stability. In the course of the presentation, the specific requirements for implant-abutment connections, the relevance of clinical studies and post-market surveillance data will be discussed to better understand how to improve and advance implant based solutions for everyday routine.

Prof. Dr. Stefan Holst
Professor Stefan Holst graduated from the Medical University of Hanover, Dental School in 1999, followed by a postgraduate education at the Louisiana State University Dept. of Prosthodontics (Head: Gerard Chiche), New Orleans, USA. He then joined the faculty of University of Erlangen, Dept. of Prosthodontics where he held a position as Professor of clinical education and headed the CAD/CAM research laboratories for eleven years prior to joining Nobel Biocare as Global head of Research and Science in 2013. In 2012 Professor Holst was appointed Adjunct Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. From 2009-2011 Professor Holst served as Associate Editor of the Quintessence International journal and he has been a member of the editorial review board of the International Journal of Prosthodontics since 2011.
Prof. Marc Quirynen
Prof. Marc Quirynen graduated with a degree in Dentistry from the University of Leuven in 1980. He obtained the degree of specialist in periodontology at the same university in 1984 and in 1986 he defended his PhD thesis titled "Anatomical and inflammatory factors influence bacterial plaque growth and retention in men". In 1990 he became a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the KULeuven with a teaching assignment in periodontics and the anatomy. In 2000 he acquired rank of full professor. His research focuses mainly on the oral microbiology with special emphasis on bacterial adhesion and the effect of antiseptics. To date, he is the author or co-author of 300 publications in numerous international magazines, as well of some 100 English articles. He is associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and referee for several international journals such as Clinical Oral Implants Research, Periodontal Practice Today and Journal of Dental Research and Periodontology.
Prof. Dr. Eric Rompen
Professor Rompen is the head of the department of Periodontology, Dental Surgery and Dental Medicine and a Professor of Periodontology Dental Surgery at the University of Liège, Belgium. He also acts as the head of the postgraduate program in Periodontology & Implantology and is the former president of the Belgian Society of Periodontology (2001-2004).
Dr. Peter Schüpbach
Dr. Peter Schüpbach has a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Zürich and is the owner of Schüpbach Ltd, a Laboratory for Histology, Microscopy and Imaging in the Zürich area of Switzerland. He is Associate Professor in Periodontics, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and Adjunct Professor in Periodontics, Georgia Health Sciences University, College of Dental Medicine. His research expertise focuses on biomaterials, particularly on dental and orthopedic implants and bone regeneration. He lectures worldwide on the biodynamics and histology of osseointegration and soft tissue healing.
Dr. Peter Wöhrle
Dr. Peter Wörhle received DMD and MMedSc (Oral Biology) degrees from Harvard University, School of Dental Medicine, in addition to a Specialty Certificate in Prosthodontics and a Specialty Certificate in Implant Dentistry. Prior to his studies in Boston, he completed a four-year dental technician program in Switzerland. At Harvard, he and his colleagues worked on developing the concept of Immediate Loading with Brånemark implants. Later, he applied these principles to the single tooth and the concept of immediate tooth replacement. He lectures worldwide, and his practice in Newport Beach CA focuses exclusively on dental implants.
