Increasing know-how in Macau

by: Michael Stuart

424 dental professionals made the Nobel Biocare Symposium in Macau one of the biggest gatherings of clinicians and dental technicians in Southeast Asia.

With learning at the heart of the event (May 15-17), the auditorium at Macau’s Grand Hyatt hotel was converted into more of a classroom setting, with desks available for each participant. This meant attendees could focus on taking notes in comfort as they heard from the 19 speakers.

First impressions

The event was opened by Dr. Patrick Henry, one of the pioneers of implant dentistry and the chair of the event program. In addition to a packed keynote schedule, participants were also able to join hands-on training sessions and masterclasses on topics ranging from the All-on-4® treatment concept to immediate loading.

Though Macau is known as the Las Vegas of the East, the assembled dental professionals don’t want to gamble when it comes to the products and solutions they use with their patients. As a result, there was great interest in our new complete posterior solution. Designed for predictability, it’s comprised of the new NobelParallel Conical Connection and NobelActive wide-platform implants, together with the NobelProcera FCZ (full-contour zirconia) Implant Crown.

Four NobelProcera partner labs showcased their offerings, including the FCZ Implant Crown, at the event, giving the clinicians the chance to see the precision and quality of NobelProcera restorations firsthand.

Lasting impressions

Here’s what some of the attendees had to say after the event:

"I had previously written off All-on-4® as an under-engineered solution to fully edentulous patients. Having attended the symposium and seen the data presented, I now consider All-on-4® as a viable treatment modality."
Dr. Lee Hoon Hwee (prosthodontist), Singapore

"I enjoyed the symposium very much and I was very interested in the presentation by Professor Stefan Holst. We have been using the system for quite a while and it is always good to refresh ourselves with some of the latest innovations within the system."
Dr. Kamsiah Haider, Malaysia

“Content of the lectures was very in-depth.”
Dr. Andes Wu, Hong Kong

"The treatment protocols are quite different from what we generally do with our previous implant system, maybe because of the implant design. After the first couple cases with NobelActive and the delayed loading protocol, we will start trying the immediate function protocol and/or immediate implant placement protocol."
We Care Dental Centre, Macau

“It was better than I expected. Singapore seems to have some good doctors. Learned a few details that will change the way I practice."
Dr. Paul Leung, Hong Kong

“It was a great opportunity to meet lots of dentists, besides, it gave me the chance to learn and extend my knowledge with the All-on-4® treatment protocol. I gained so much at this symposium for building my working network, as well as to enhance my skill set.”
Mr. Dixon Yung, NobelProcera Network Lab Owner, Hong Kong
