Professor Eric Rompen received his degree in Dental Science in 1986 and his post-graduate degree in Oral Rehabilitation in 1989. He completed his Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 1991. He is Professor of Periodontology and of Dental Surgery at the University of Liège, Belgium and was Head of the Department of Periodontology, Dental Surgery of the University Hospital. He directed the postgraduate programs in periodontology and implantology from 1999 to 2018.

Prof. Rompen was President of the Belgian Society of Periodontology from 2001–2004 and was the coordinator of the European University Certificate of Oral Implantology. Prof. Rompen’s teaching responsibilities at the University of Liège include periodontology, dental and implant surgery.

His research interests cover epidemiology and the systemic impact of periodontal diseases, surgical management of tissue deficiencies, mechanisms of bone regeneration and soft and hard tissue integration of dental implants, as well as the development of biomaterials for tissue augmentation.

His clinical work is focused on gingival muco-surgery and implantology and he recently launched his own private clinic and education center.
