An immediate and predictable solution for the severely atrophic maxilla: Roundtable on treatment with Nobel Biocare zygomatic implants

In this insightful video roundtable, three leading maxillofacial surgeons, Rubén Davó, Enrico Agliardi, and Luc Vrielinck, reflect on twenty years of experience and clinical research on Nobel Biocare zygomatic implants.

They emphasize the life-changing impact of these implants, particularly due to their immediate implant loading capability and the esthetic and functional benefits they bring.

What were their motivations to undertake this advanced treatment technique? Davó explained “When I started to graft my patients I immediately knew I had to look for another solution because it was too long and unpredictable.”

Dr. Agliardi described the reaction he received from some of his earliest zygomatic implant patients: “When we said, ‘Tomorrow you will immediately start to eat and smile’ – they don’t believe you”. “The day after when they feel it has been successful, they are so happy… sometimes they cry with you.”

All three of these experts have conducted long-term clinical research into Nobel Biocare zygomatic implants (studies with fifteen-, seventeen- and twenty-years’ follow-up), and the proof of predictability with Nobel Biocare is unlike any other zygomatic implant on the market.1, 2, 3

Based on the incredible and immediate impact Nobel Biocare zygomatic implants have on patients’ quality of life in terms of esthetics and function, the panel unanimously agreed that the dental and maxillofacial community should be encouraged to pursue this treatment technique. But, advanced training and expert mentorship are essential to applying this treatment safely and effectively.

Luc Vrielinck has made one such contribution by creating the Zygoma Implant Facebook group for dental professionals. Whether they are just starting out or experts, the goal of the group is “to perfect our knowledge through sharing and discussing articles, textbooks and cases.”

In summary, this video roundtable underscores the importance of zygomatic implants as a graftless approach for edentulous patients with maxillary bone atrophy. The key takeaway is the immediate change in the patient's quality of life, achieved through proper training, correct indications and careful patient selection. Nobel Biocare’s zygomatic implants offer a powerful solution for patients in the most challenging situations, seeking both functional and esthetic restoration.
